A pharmacist and No7 consultant from Boots UK visited Belong Macclesfield, on Kennedy Avenue, to offer mini-makeovers and cosmetics advice to residents and run an 'Ask your pharmacist' session for visitors to the community care village. The sessions took place in Belong Macclesfield as part of a day of events to celebrate National Care Home Open Day. Other activities throughout the day included live music, the village gardening club and dog petting for people living in Belong Macclesfield.

Betty Townend, who lives in Belong Macclesfield, said: "Everybody likes to look their best, whatever their age. I already visit the village Hair Salon regularly to have my hair done, so it was a lovely change to have the experts from Boots come along to our open day and to give us makeup tips."

Caroline Ray, General Manager at Belong Macclesfield, said: "Not everybody realises how many services in Belong Macclesfield are open to the public, so National Care Home Open Day is an excellent opportunity for us to open the doors and welcome people in to look around. We do a lot of work with local community groups to ensure that there are always a range of activities taking place in the village and we are very grateful that the team from Boots came along to show their support."

Gail Pearce, Senior Business Development Manager Care Services, Boots UK comments “For over 165 years we’ve used our pharmacy-led expertise and support to help improve the health and wellbeing of local communities. We we’re delighted to be a part of national care home day and to be able to share some of our community services with the residents of Belong Macclesfield.”

National Care Home Open Day is designed to help reveal what the majority of care homes in the UK are really like by opening doors to their local neighbourhoods. The national initiative is intended to help people to realise that care homes are often inspiring places, with vibrant communities and a dedicated workforce.

Belong Macclesfield includes facilities such as the village bistro, hair salon and exercise studio, which are open to members of the local community all year round. The Belong model is based on the vision that older people have the right to enjoy the same community belonging and richness of experience that they have always known.
