Boots UK is partnering with British Gymnastics to launch its new Jump for Pudsey campaign to help inspire the nation to get more active and support disadvantaged children across the UK

In a bid to get the nation moving and being more active, Boots UK is challenging children and their families to do one million jumps for Pudsey; turning jumps into pounds to raise money for BBC Children in Need.

This brand new, energetic and exciting national fundraising campaign is launching in Boots stores between 22 – 29 October 2016, with its main ‘Jump Day’ on Wednesday 26 October. During the week, Boots UK will invite children and families across the country to do as many jumps as possible at organised in-store events, at home, or with their friends, and track the progress of their challenge through the online Jump Totaliser*.

Helping reach the one million jumps will be thousands of gymnasts from up and down the country, who are staging Jump for Pudsey challenges through British Gymnastics registered clubs and leisure centres.

The funds raised through Jump for Pudsey will help BBC Children in Need fund projects which support disadvantaged children and young people in the UK, including a number focusing on improvements to physical wellbeing. This is the thirteenth year that Boots UK has been a charity partner for BBC Children in Need, which last year alone helped tens of thousands of disadvantaged children and young people through health and sport programmes.

According to Sport England, more than one in four people do less than 30 minutes of physical activity as week, but even just a small amount of exercise like jumping can play a significant role in helping us to become healthier and happier1.

Una Kent, Director of Communications and CSR at Boots UK, comments “In the UK today, one in three children are leaving primary school overweight or obese2, with a higher number in disadvantaged communities3, and half of seven year olds aren’t getting the daily recommended amount of exercise4.  Through our social mission we are committed to helping all young people to live happier and healthier lives, and as part of this work we are delighted to be launching Jump for Pudsey. We know that it can be really hard to inspire children to be more active but with British Gymnastics, we hope to get the nation jumping to raise important funds for BBC Children in Need.  Jump for Pudsey is all about connecting people though a really accessible activity-based fundraising campaign in the heart of their local communities.”

British Gymnastics has created five easy jump challenges which can be found on boots.com and in the Jump Journal - available free from most Boots UK stores.

Jane Allen, CEO of British Gymnastics comments: “We are proud to partner with Boots UK on such a worthwhile campaign. Jump for Pudsey for BBC Children in Need will see gymnastic clubs and communities in the UK leaping, hopping, jumping and bouncing their way to draw attention to this great campaign and raise money for this important charity. Like Boots UK, we believe in wellbeing and the many physical and social benefits of active lifestyles. We are therefore delighted to join forces to inspire gymnasts, clubs and wider communities to jump and raise money for BBC Children in Need. Our organisations align well and there are many parallels not least active communities being a focus for us both. We're excited about this new partnership and look forward to it developing as we move forward."

Jonathan Rigby, Director of Marketing and Fundraising at BBC Children in Need said: “Jump for Pudsey is a first for Boots UK and BBC Children in Need, capturing the spirit of our partnership by bringing together fun, fundraising and encouraging children to get active with the support of British Gymnastics. Bringing the nation together to achieve something incredible is what BBC Children in Need is all about and Jump for Pudsey gives people the opportunity to get active with the aim of achieving one million jumps from across the UK. We’re proud to have been working in partnership with Boots for 13 years and happy to see them offering colleagues and customers a fun new way to fundraise.”

Whether encouraging young people into sports, helping tackle poverty, working with those affected by disability, or helping groups such as local young carers; every penny fundraised for BBC Children in Need will go to helping fund the projects the Charity supports.

People are being encouraged to make a donation of £3 by texting JUMP to 70313**, or via mydonate.bt.com/events/jumpforpudsey

These are the ways your jumps could help disadvantaged children and young people in the UK:

  • 100 jumps -  means a young girl who has been bullied can make friends at a local youth club (2015)
  • 200 jumps - means an 11-year-old boy with autism can develop his co-ordination and confidence at a trampoline session (2014)
  • 700 jumps - funds a project to help a deaf boy who has been in and out of hospital  enjoy hands on activities at an outdoor survival skills day (2014)

Involve your friends/Challenge yourself/Challenge your colleagues

  • 1,500 jumps - means a 12-year-old boy with learning difficulties gets to play, learn and grow in confidence at a unique football and literacy project (2015)
  • 2,000 jumps - pays for a group of children living in a deprived area to have an hour of weekend football, keeping them active and healthy over winter (2014)
  • 3,000 jumps - means disabled children can do an indoor surfing session, where they can have fun while improving their balance and coordination (2016)
  • 25,000 jumps - pays for a cooker for a family who have previously been homeless, allowing the children to have a warm meal a day and improve their health.

Just think what a difference your jumps could make today.
