Boots UK is delighted to announce that for the third year in a row, its partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support has won the accolade of the second Most Admired Partnership in the C&E Corporate-NGO Partnerships Barometer.

With 8% of the votes in a poll of leading companies and Non-Government Organisations (NGOs), the partnership maintained second place in the top rankings for the brand and mission-led focus on customer and supporter care. Respondents reported that the partnership has real strategic alignment and is ‘innovative, durable and has clear objectives’ that consumers can easily and readily relate to.

“Providing care in the communities we serve has been at the heart of Boots for over 165 years,” said Marc Donovan, Chief Pharmacist, Boots UK: “Our partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support means that we can do even more to help those affected by cancer to get the support and information they need, every day. Together we have trained more than 2,000 Boots Macmillan Information Pharmacists and over 400 Boots Macmillan Beauty Advisors, colleagues who have volunteered for additional training so they can offer support to cancer patients and their loved ones. We are incredibly proud that the commitment of Boots’ colleagues to this partnership has once again been recognised by the C&E Corporate-NGO Partnerships Barometer, and we look forward to continuing to build on the partnership’s success in the future.”

The Boots-Macmillan partnership has resonated strongly across recent years in the Barometer’s findings. Alongside the M&S and Oxfam partnership which placed first, it stands some distance away from the next set of most admired partnerships with 8% and 9% of votes respectively.

C&E Advisory CEO, Manny Amadi, MVO said:“These partnerships demonstrate the best of partnering. Their success lies in the strategic approach taken and their emphasis on mission-led issues. They not only set out galvanising ambitions, but have been highly successful in translating their ambitions into effective execution and communication. As a result they have been able to engage key stakeholders, including customers and employees.”

Lynda Thomas, Chief Executive at Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “We are thrilled that Macmillan’s partnership with Boots has been recognised once again as being sector leading. The partnership is now in its sixth year and is going from strength to strength. Macmillan and Boots’ ambition is to improve the lives of everyone living with cancer and to inspire others to do the same, enabling people affected by cancer, wherever they are in the UK, to have access to the best cancer information and support in their local community. We believe our success is built on the strategic approach and commitment from both organisations to integrate the partnership’s objectives across both businesses. We’d like to thank all Boots colleagues and customers for their amazing support which has helped us to reach even more people affected by cancer.”

The C&E annual Corporate–NGO Partnerships Barometer report is now in its sixth year and draws on a poll of leading companies and NGOs, and qualitative research with corporate and NGO partnership practitioners. It explores the drivers for, and barriers to, partnering, as well as future prospects for the Corporate–NGO partnering agenda.
