As we prepare to get back out there this summer, leading beauty retailer Boots UK has the lowdown on the biggest trends for beauty lovers that are here to stay. Speaking to TV presenter Laura Whitmore, Boots Trend Specialist Grace Vernon gives us the inside scoop on the latest trends and the must-have products to look out for.

Boots has been busy transforming its beauty halls over the last 12 months – with the launch of 54 new beauty brands including Drunk Elephant, Anastasia Beverly Hills and UOMA.  It is now home to more than 500 beauty brands, and over 600 brand-neutral Boots Beauty Specialists, who are on hand to help customers look and feel great as they prepare to get out there again this summer.

Watch Laura Whitmore in conversation with Grace Vernon, as she shares her take on the biggest summer beauty trends:

SOFT, GLOWY MAKEUP

“One of the key trends we’re set to see this summer is soft, glowy, skin-enhancing makeup. People really want to show off the amazing skin that they’ve managed to get during lockdown, so this is a look that is set to stay. As people turn to TikTok for inspiration, you can forget thick, high-coverage looks – this year it’s all about a natural, healthy glow, with hydration-filled cosmetics and complexion-boosting products. Our customers are already behind this trend, with searches for both dewy foundations and cream blush growing on boots.com1.”

SLEEP IS THE KEY OF WELLNESS

“If the Covid 19 pandemic did anything, it accelerated the trends we were already seeing – and the quest for a good night’s sleep is top of the priority list when it comes to wellness. With a year full of unusual situations, the mission for a peaceful night of sleep has remained, with searches for ‘sleep yoga’ and ‘sleep blends for diffuser’ trending on Pinterest2, and searches for ‘pillow sprays’ on boots.com rising by a third 3.

As well as a better night’s beauty sleep, customers are looking for products that accelerate the skin’s nightly regeneration process. From nourishing face oils to overnight treatments, we expect multi-powered products that help boost the skin’s overnight healing process to be big this summer.”

AT-HOME TREATMENTS AND MASKS

“Without access to skincare professionals in the past year, people fast learned to become their own facialists. Customers have spent more time researching skincare ingredients, finding out exactly what they do and the benefits they have – adapting their skincare wardrobes as they go. As people continue to look for at-home treatments that deliver professional-level results, we expect masks and peels to remain popular with our customers. Multi-purpose products will also rise in popularity as they allow us to incorporate all the amazing potent ingredients into our skincare, but without increasing the number of steps.”

BROWN TONES ARE BACK

“90’s beauty is back with a vengeance, and neutral, brown tones are the key – from dark nude lip liners to enhance the fullness of the lip, to smoky eyes with a smudged brown liner to finish the look. And with Google searches for brown lipstick up by 350% in the last month4, we expect to see even more people rocking 90’s-inspired beauty this summer!

Hot off the heels of the Friends Reunion show, we’ve seen customers rushing to buy brown-hued beauty products to recreate the classic look seen on Rachel Green. Searches for brown eyeliner on boots.com doubled after the reunion show aired5.”
