  • This week Boots celebrates one year of supporting the NHS to administer COVID-19 vaccinations
  • Boots continues to support the NHS to deliver COVID-19 booster vaccinations in over 80 stores and has doubled appointment capacity since December

Prime Minister Boris Johnson met with some of the Boots pharmacists who are playing such a vital role in the UK’s booster vaccination roll out while visiting his local Boots pharmacy in Uxbridge today.

Since Boots opened its first vaccination hub at its Halifax store in January 2021, Boots has administered over 1.4 million COVID-19 vaccinations. It continues to support the NHS to offer COVID-19 booster vaccinations at over 80 pharmacies through specially created vaccination hubs or in consultation rooms.

To support the national effort to accelerate uptake of COVID-19 booster jabs, since December Boots has doubled appointment capacity at existing sites and added a small number of new sites too.

Boots Vaccination Programme Director Nick Sunderland said: “We are so proud of our pharmacists who have worked incredibly hard to support the national effort to accelerate the COVID-19 booster vaccination programme. It is thanks to them that we have been able to increase our appointment capacity and it is great to have the Prime Minister recognise the important role that community pharmacy has played in the success of the COVID-19 vaccination programme to date.”

Boots Uxbridge Store Manager Karthick Chakrapani said: “Working on the front lines of the COVID-19 vaccination programme is a real honour. Our patients tell us that they value the opportunity to get their booster at their local pharmacy – it is convenient and an environment they are already familiar with. As healthcare professionals, we know that the booster is vitally important in reducing the chances of people getting seriously unwell as a result of COVID-19 and we encourage anyone who has not yet had their booster to book an appointment as soon as possible.”

Patients can book a COVID-19 booster vaccination via the NHS National Booking Service.
