Boots UK introduces its first Beauty Trends Report, forecasting some of the biggest trends expected to shape the beauty landscape over the coming months. Combining unique customer insight and in-house expertise, the report delves into the key predictions across skincare, makeup and haircare for 2021. As the UK’s leading beauty retailer, Boots already offers a wide range of beauty products - with everything from premium cosmetics to affordable skincare. This year Boots will be making even more new brands accessible to customers through boots.com and its network of 2336* stores.

TREND 1: SKINTELLIGENCE

Thanks to an influx of scientific skincare brands hitting the market and an ongoing customer quest for healthy skin, it is expected that ingredient-led skincare brands will continue to lead the way. Already seeing huge growth from the likes of Boots Ingredients* and Inkey List**, Boots is responding to customer demand for science-led skincare with the launch of Boots Collagen and Dr. Jart.

TREND 2: HIGH-LEVEL HAIRCARE

Taking its cue from skincare, haircare is about to get more sophisticated. Moving beyond basic shampoo and conditioning, brands are bringing more skincare-like ingredients into their product formulations. Launching at Boots, Inkey List Hair, Undone by George Northwood and Aveeno Hair are all set to be big players in the hair category this year, offering innovative products that take haircare as seriously as skincare.

TREND 3: SUSTAINABILITY IS RE-IGNATED

Brands will continue to focus on sustainability solutions. In a bid to reduce plastic waste, Boots launched its beauty recycling scheme in partnership with No7 last year where customers can drop off any hard-to-recycle products in exchange for Boots Advantage Card Points. Boots is now working with P&G to offer sustainable solutions in the haircare arena and will be launching re-usable bottles and refillable pouches from some of the most well-known haircare brands, including Herbal Essences, Aussie, Pantene and Head and Shoulders.

TREND 4: NORMALISING SKIN TEXTURE

2021 will see customers investing in the health of their skin and letting their natural texture shine through. Stocking over 150 skincare brands, Boots is equipped to cater to all skincare needs and has now announced that it will be Launching Skin Proud, Glow Hub and Florena to its ever-growing skincare category.

TREND 5: NATURAL HAIR REVIVAL

With the trend for natural hair continuing, product diversity and texture inclusivity will be prioritised more than ever. In addition to expanding its textured hair range from 200 to 600 stores across the country, Boots will be launching new products and brands including Rhyme & Reason which is a natural, inclusive range for all hair types.

TREND 6: THE ART OF APPLICATION

Customers will be turning to beauty to add extra positivity into their everyday lives and creativity will be prioritised over perfection. Bright, bold and fun makeup looks will lead the way and brands that champion self-acceptance will remain popular. Joining the inclusive offering already stocked at Boots, UOMA Beauty will launch this spring.

TREND 7: THE RISE OF THE RITUAL

As the home becomes an increasingly important wellness retreat, customers will start carving out extra time for self-care. Brands will continue to focus on products that make it easier to recreate the therapeutic spa experience at home, allowing customers to switch off from everyday life. Boots has recently expanded its beauty and wellness offering with the launch of Aroma Active and the new Botanics facial tool range.
