  • Boots UK’s Recycle at Boots initiative makes recycling easier than ever before, enabling customers to recycle products that can’t traditionally be recycled at home
  • Since the launch of the initiative, over 580,000 beauty, health and wellness products have been recycled
  • Throughout COP26 summit, a window display at a Boots store in Glasgow is showcasing the beauty of recycling

For over 170 years, Boots has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to operating as a socially responsible business and reducing the impact on the environment. It recognises that it has a unique place in the heart of the communities that it serves and is committed to being more sustainable, as well as helping customers to make more sustainable choices.

Central to this is the ‘Recycle at Boots’ scheme, which encourages customers to bring back their empty, hard-to-recycle beauty, health and wellness products, in return for Boots Advantage Card points. The scheme, which has recently rolled out to 700 stores across the UK, has been credited as the most accessible scheme of its kind in the UK by On-Pack Recycling Label (OPRL). Since its launch over 12 months ago, over 580,000 products have been recycled.

To showcase the scheme and in recognition of the COP26 Summit, Boots has created an innovative window display in its St Enoch Centre store in Glasgow. The window display, developed in partnership with The British Beauty Council, embodies the beauty of recycling and shows the transparency of the ‘Recycle at Boots’ scheme. In addition to the window, customers visiting the store will be able to see the ways that their beauty products are being reused as part of the recycling scheme, with chairs and Christmas trees on display that started their lives as beauty and health products.

Lucy Reynolds, Vice President and Director of Communications, CSR and Sustainability at Boots UK said: “Reducing the impact on the environment is an important part of the way we operate at Boots and we are continually reviewing the way we manage our business and the products we sell in order to be more sustainable. We also want to inspire customers to be agents for change, helping them to make conscious shopping decisions to support them on their sustainability journey.

“We understand that what we want to achieve through our sustainability agenda is no simple task and we know that we have a way to go, but by working together alongside customers and team members, we can create a big impact and make a difference.”

Additionally, to support Boots customers looking to ‘Be More’ sustainable, Boots has also introduced a shopping edit on boots.com that helps customers make informed decisions on products that are right for them and the planet and navigate what sustainability means to them. The St Enoch Centre store will see these edits brought to life in store for the first time. The edits feature more than 400 products from brands including Liz Earle, Drunk Elephant and Fenty skin.
