We thrilled that our Chief Pharmacist, Marc Donovan has been awarded an OBE for his services to pharmacy as part of the 2022 Queen’s Jubilee Birthday Honours.

Marc, who has worked at Boots for over 25 years, is responsible for overseeing our network of pharmacies and the vital work they do every day to support local communities across the country. Marc played a major role at Boots in the COVID-19 pandemic, making sure that team members, customers and patients continued to receive the healthcare support and advice they needed during that time.

Marc said: “I’m honoured to accept this recognition on behalf of the many dedicated and hard-working pharmacists and pharmacy teams that I have had the privilege to work alongside over the years. The positive difference that community pharmacy has made, and continues to make, is extraordinary and I feel privileged to have had such a rewarding career in the profession so far.”

Marc began his pharmacy career with Boots in 1996 as a pre-registration pharmacist and has been our Chief Pharmacist since 2015. As well as being responsible for all of Boots UK’s pharmacies, Marc also leads on our Community Pharmacy strategy, as well as representing Boots on various professional bodies across the UK.

Marc played a key role in the vital work of the team rolling out our COVID-19 testing and vaccinations; he was instrumental in introducing the Ask for ANI service across Boots stores and for many years has championed our partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support, to the point we can now offer access to a Boots Macmillan Information Pharmacist in every store.

Throughout his time as Chief Pharmacist and no more so than during the COVID-19 pandemic, through countless videos and media interviews Marc has been ever-present, offering expert, reassuring health advice to our team members, patients and customers when they have needed it most.

We are incredibly proud of the important work Marc and his team do to continue to support our local communities.

Earlier this year in the New Year Honours List Asif Aziz, our Director of Healthcare Services, was awarded an OBE for his role in Boots response to reducing the spread of COVID-19 through our testing services
