Meningitis B Vaccination Service launched

 

Boots UK is introducing a new, private Meningitis B Vaccination Service in selected stores from 2 November 2015 for children aged between two and 18 years old.

In September 2015, the NHS introduced the Meningitis B vaccination as part of the routine childhood immunisations programme in the UK, scheduling vaccinations to infants at the age of two, four and 12 months of age.

Boots UK fully support the NHS programme, and while this vaccination routine helps to protect the most vulnerable babies at an age group when they are most at risk of developing Meningitis B, Boots recognises that some parents may want to consider vaccination for their children who are outside of the routine age range for the NHS programme.

If a child is eligible for the Boots Meningitis B Vaccination Service, determined following a consultation with the pharmacist, they will administer 2 vaccinations a minimum of two months apart for those aged 2-10 years and a minimum of 1 month apart for those aged 11 upwards.

Building on the success of the Boots Travel Vaccinations and Health Advice Service and the Boots Winter Flu Jab Service, we believe this new service will give greater access to the Meningitis B Vaccination, at a more accessible cost than many private clinics.”

 Appointments can be made online at Boots.com from 26 October and the Boots Meningitis B Vaccination Service will commence in pharmacies from the 2 November. The cost for each vaccination is £95.00. As there are two recommended doses, the cost for the total course is £190.00
